The surgery is continually changing adopting new technology and adapting to new regulations and ideas. 

We have been using digital x-ray technology for a little time now, enabling us to reduce the radiation dosage to a minimum and to store the x-ray images in the computer.  This allows instant access to x-ray images helping to make patient visits shorter and more convenient.  Many patients will have had x-rays taken with our OPG machine that produces an all-round the mouth picture, avoiding a visit to hospital to have specialist x-rays taken.

We shall be converting a spare treatment room into decontamination and sterilizing room.  This will involve removing all autoclaves (sterilizers) from our treatment areas, and having a dedicated sterilizing nurse.

Stella Kwan has been with us for a year now and is well established as one of our dental colleagues.  She has a special interest in dental treatment involving implants.  An implant is a device that is used for replacing lost teeth in special cases, and to help anchorage for difficult dentures.

Congratulations to Stephanie Weston who passed the NEBDN national dental nurse qualification exam at Christmas.  This examination requires a great deal of hard work and studying.

Trainee nurse, Annmarie Preece, will be leaving us for a short time to have a baby.  We wish her all the best.

There have been major changes at the surgery since the last newsletter.

Tim Eldridge, a former partner in the practice, has left us to move to work nearer his home in Cheltenham.  Tim worked at the practice for eight years and helped develop and change our working practices and building.  We wish him the best in his new life.

We are delighted to welcome a new dentist, Stella Kwan, who replaces Tim.  Stella joins us from a practice in York where she worked for five years, during which time she gained M Sc in dental implantology at Manchester University.  We are pleased that she will increase our treatment options available in the surgery as she will be able to provide implants for our patients ‘in house’.

We congratulate Laura Edwards for passing her NEBDN Oral Health Educators’ examination.  She now joins our oral health team which is comprised of three qualified educators.  The team will be organising events in May to celebrate Smile Month.
 
There have been the usual round of visits to schools by surgery members.  Krista Binnersley, a partner in the practice, and Laura Edwards have visited Stretton Sugwas and Lord Sudamore Schools to give oral health dental talks to the children.  They also visited Whitecross School to represent dentistry at the recent careers convention.

Patients are reminded that they are welcome to use our bicycle racks which are located at the rear and side entrances of the building.

Patients with mobility difficulties may use the sloped side entrance which is accessed from the front of the building by the gate on the right.  A wheelchair is available at the practice to avoid unnecessary inconvenience when visiting the premises.  If help is required, please contact the Reception staff.
