Dental nursing is regulated by the General Dental Council. All persons working as dental nurses must be registered with the Council. Registration requires that the dental nurse has obtained a recognised dental nursing qualification such as the National Certificate – Dental Nursing, NVQ in Oral Health Care; Dental Nursing. There is a comprehensive list of approved dental nurse qualifications acceptable for registration at the GCD website, www.gdc-uk.org.

Visiting lecturers give lessons about their specialist subjects.
NURSES TRAINING COURSE QUALIFICATION
Teaching is designed to prepare the student dental nurse to sit the examination for the N.E.B.D.N. National Diploma in Dental Nursing. The National Examination is held in November and May each year.
Tuition is given on Wednesday evenings, 6.30pm until 8.30pm for one year, starting in November. Lessons are usually comprised of a mixture of lectures and demonstrations with student participation when possible. Assessment to establish learning styles and preferences is carried out to enable teaching to be delivered in the most favourable way for each student. Evidence of practical dental working experience is collected by students. This is self-recorded and verified by the employing dentist.
There is no Government funding for this course.
Students, who need to be employed as a trainee dental nurse to be accepted onto this course, can be self-funding, or fees can be paid by the employer.
